If you think that restaurants are not politically polarized, you’re wrong. They are.
Chick-fil-A is an obvious example. In the summer of 2012, Chick-fil-A’s CEO Dan Cathy drew attention for his statements on same-sex marriage. Many politicians and consumers responded to these comments both in support and in opposition. Still, in 2019, people are still adamantly debating Chick-fil-A and its stance on LGBTQ+ matters due to recent reports of the donations from its corporate foundation.
While many people associate Chick-fil-A with their conservative religious and political views, most people don’t realize that many other restaurants are much more conservative than Chick-fil-A. For example, according the Goods Unite Us app, Buffalo Wild Wings (97%), Wendy’s (89%), Jimmy John’s (87%), KFC (86%), and Taco Bell (86%) along with their senior employees all donate to the Republican party at higher percentages than Chick-fil-A (81%). Liberals might also be especially troubled when they eat pizza, because Papa Johns (96%), Domino’s (90%), Papa Murphy’s (88%), Pizza Hut (86%) and Little Caesars (81%) and their senior employees all also donate heavily to Republicans.
But Republicans also need to watch where they eat! If you support Chick-fil-A and other conservative causes, you might think twice before you eat at many Mexican food chains, like Chipotle and Qdoba, which both along with their senior employees donate to the Democratic party at 99% and 93%, respectively. Conservatives should also beware of where they get their coffee too, as 91% of donations from Starbucks and its senior employees benefit liberal causes.
While these everyday purchases can seem simple and meaningless, the average American voter donates three times more inadvertently through their purchasing to politicians and PACs than they donate on purpose. That’s why it’s so important for you to download the Goods Unite Us app, which makes it easy for you put your money where your vote is!
